Okay, Chapter 17 (Big Brother) is hysterical and disturbing in such a perfect way. Easily my favorite so far, and it’s going up against 16 other heavy hitters. Wrath James White really saved the best for last.

Really appreciate that these stories take the time for humor and lightheartedness. It really helps flesh out each one, and makes the scares hit much harder in turn.

So far, my favorite story is a tossup between Chapter 8 (Unsolicited) and Chapter 9 (Blood-Soaked Savior). It’s fascinating how these stories play out, some really hold off on their twist until the last second, others tell you upfront what’s about to happen to leave you dreading the end the whole time. Great stuff!

George is a damned pervert, poor Umma’s so desperate to feel loved that she’s not clocking that she’s being objectified. Points off for Umma not recognizing that George is upsetting her daughters, but understandable given how bad her trauma/grief is from her husband abandoning her

Geoffrey is so clearly a wolf in sheep’s clothing, he’s so controlling and possessive quickly, and uses a “nice guy” approach to get Ji-won to tell him more than she’s comfortable with.

Whelp, there’s the final cruel joke. At least she got to see her kids one last time.

Well, this sucks (in a good writing way). Right near the end, desperation and death hits a fever pitch. And all the kids are already way too far gone a month before salvation. It would have gone better for everyone if the kids stayed dead the first time.

This mental decline vaguely reminds me of rabies. How you can technically skip being put in a medical coma until you die, but all it really does is make you suffer through losing your mind.
