Almost 20% in and NOTHING has happened. A girl with an arse of a father crawling around with balloons tied to her wrist and then finds out her new boss is a guy she had the hots for five years ago. Meaningless drivel for dialogue. Hello? It better improve and quickly.

Enough of Crimea and Scutari. Enough of Anne Ramsay and Gordon Ramsay, Mrs Poole etc.
‘Life was so cruel’ ‘Moments of intense longing for her brother’ I’m getting tired of Gemma.

So bleak. Such a depressing book. I don’t know if I want to read anymore of this series.

I am disappointed. I used to eagerly wait for the next Tate and Bell but this, No 5 in the series does not live up to the previous 4. There’s very little action and so far, very little interaction between Gemma and Sebastian. The appearance of Simeon the elder brother is welcome but Sebastian treats his shabbily. Get a life Sebastian!

Audible. Good story. Narration excellent and am enjoying it.

Where is the editor? This is dreadful. I’ve already skipped two chapters.

Six chapters of unremitting detail of a single woman’s academic life … students, marking papers, research. Then walking the dog.
So boring, like watching paint dry.
I don’t think I can do this!

This series is extremely well-researched but vastly in need of the editorial pen. Frequently, the level of detail is far too high and my attention wavers, often necessitating the rereading of several pages. Sophie takes far too many risks, and it beggars belief that she hasn’t been spotted by one of Stockley’s henchmen as she prowls Chertsey at night.

Can’t stand the narrator, the whiny voice for Osyth is really annoying. DNF.

This is a wonderful story and would have been a 4⭐️ read for me. However, the word for word repetition of paragraphs from the previous book is annoying and unforgivable. What on earth was the author thinking? That her readers are complete idiots? Downgraded to 3 ⭐️

OMGthis book is painfully slooow. Almost halfway there and finally some action. Up to this point the characters have gone for a walk, a horse ride, talked, eaten, slept, talked. So boring.

Well, this has started well, let’s hope it continues. The early glimpses of life on board a RN ship in 19thC are fascinating

Marian Hussey is quickly becoming my favourite female narrator, now that Davina Porter has retired. She is superb, and she handles the male voice very well .. unlike some others.

Liking this better than the 1st, more intrigue and a clear plot line

This is predominantly a romance with a token nod to the mystery genre. Pretty boring.

Entertaining so far

Both Miles and Lucy are well-drawn characters as are many of the side characters like Physician Sam and the novice medium whose first-time encounter with a 'vamp' was suitably scary. Onwards.

I am really enjoying my first foray into steampunk Victorian style. I wondered at first if the genre was really for me but this loose adaptation of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale is spot on, and the narration is good which is an added bonus.
