A fantastic climax to the entire new 52 run. I won't change my rating of the previous volume, but its impact (or lack of impact) makes sense with the context of this set of issues. Just really great all around.

The letter to Milton Waldman, dated 1951 gives the context to the oft repeated fact that Tolkien 'hates allegory'. He explains his belief that allegory essentially interferes with the expression of moral truth.

After a single chapter, it's clear that this is one strange and unique book.

The Ride of the Rohirrim. It hits differently when you know that Theoden believes he is too late to a save Minas Tirith, and charges forth anyway.

The Window on the West. Another great chapter, another great character. Faramir deserved better than his treatment in the films.

The Voice of Saruman. What a great chapter, what a villain. An absolute fail that this was essentially entirely left out of the Peter Jackson films.
