"Grimly Larry reached down and drew from his uniform his automatic. He popped a fresh clip into the pocket fold of his girdle. The pistol he slung high up beneath his arm-pit."

Umm, it's a magazine.

These scenes with Azrael and Gordon are great. Anytime Gordon is in focus the background is clear, but when it's Azrael the background is filled with black splotches. Also it's great to see the difference Azrael makes in these common Batman encounters. He just leaves with Gordon still watching him.

[Stated to Journalists upon the sneak attack by Germany]"Koht revealed that the government and king were relocating to Hamar"

What world did these people live in that they trusted Journalists with the location of the entire government?

If only I could have had such an officer as Captain Torrance when I was in the military.

Missing Commandant with little or no details of his disappearance? Its things like this you'll never learn from anywhere but a book.

"I came to these mountains to raise a following of human beings, not to war with wizards."

This is the major difference between Conan and Kane. While the magics are to be shunned and feared, they aren't something one seeks to defeat or exterminate.

"The endurance of the British infantry had been severely tested in the process [Somme], and public opinion at home was shaken".

This entire part of the book is pure copium from a German Officer. Guderian spends this first part pointing out casualties the Allies took vs Germans. Then gives Verdun a paragraph. You guys lost, this is a book about Tanks, just put the the fries in the bag, sir.

Totally de-motivated, Oberst Hatledal told Kaptein Leif Rolstad, the duty officer at the General Staff, that his efforts to obtain a decision on mobilisation ‘had come to naught’, and he was now so exhausted that he asked not to be disturbed ‘unless something very special happens’.

I wonder if a better translation of the last quote would have to swap "special" with "extraordinary". "Special" feels to positive here.

While reading this pre WW2 work on how potentially damaging it is to release simple information about top secret development projects. Because of a book released in Britain, Germany (and others) know the location and details of Britain's Tank project and whose involved.

“Our wagon is small,” Vallian said, “and not worth the warriors who must die to take it. If you wish to come, then come, but sing your death-songs before you do, for many will die.”

Very eloquent. The Western man has a way with words. The meaning can sometimes be lost in translation.

"You don’t gain victories by rattling across country like a pack of hunters, but by enduring the enemy’s fire and overcoming it. That’s where a soldier earns his pay, hard under the enemy muzzles.”

This is wrong. Most major breakthroughs in warfare is maneuver based. Napoleon's army system, Blitzkrieg, Airborne Assaults to name a few.

Rose took a quick mental inventory of both his body and his few assets. He knew in an instant he couldn’t take her in a fight, either fair or foul, at least not without a ’Mech.

Rose, an accomplished Mechwarrior, can't beat a female cop in a fight fair or foul. Am I supposed to like this MC?

"During the battle Dmitriy Ivanovich Panfilov personally destroyed three light tanks, and hundreds of enemy corpses remained on the road. Soon afterwards, Panfilov was nominated for the title of Hero of the Soviet Union." It's stuff like this that make me really suspicious of the authenticity of this memoir. He didn't see this happen. How did he "personally" destroy three light tanks? It's never brought up.

"Countless cases of—what was it called?—trench foot, yes trench foot—soldiers crippled just from standing in a water-filled trench."

Trench foot is common among soldiers with wet feet. There's most likely multiple cases during any military operation, even today. I doubt humans stopped having sweaty feet in war zones when they learned to jump through interstellar space.
