is it just me or did the author just kinda admit to low-key stalking this woman for a year? like going around town and talking to other family and neighbors while constantly leaving voicemails to a woman who's already had to deal with reporters for years and has not made any attempt to contact you? seems at the very least pretty inconsiderate considering how the family clearly dont like speaking with reporters

not only reading details about your loved one's autopsy in a book but also her medical record that had been released to a reporter without the family's knowledge or consent only adds to the violations this poor family went through with this whole scandal

small inaccuracy: the author says "glandular tissue instead of epithelial tissue", but what she meant was glandular instead of squamous tissue (both are epithelial tissues)

there's been a lot of ethical issues with the researchers in this book (of course), but i think the doctor who purposefully injected multiple patients with cancer without their knowledge takes the cake

im gonna have to reread "next" after this i think

a character just had a thought along the lines of "it sounds like a long, high note, or air escaping". and then in the next sentence she said the same thing out loud almost word for word

i think i actually hate this writing

i appreciate how the book talks about how funding and lack of resources has influenced the spread of diseases across time. it's almost impossible to talk about epidemiology without mentioning economics

had to supplement this wild revelation with some additional reading. did you know the us had a plague outbreak in the early 1900s?? and it was covered up? and we STILL have the plague??

so many appendices..

(i may be mixing up the two companies at points) but also how are we still going through trials? all the while there are still girls working in these factories! it's been close to two decades at this point!
