VAVILOV ARRIVES! His chapters are my favorites of part one I’d say, and it’s great to see him again after ~360 pages of him absent. Also I’m on part 2 now.

GROSSMAN YOU SON OF A BITCH! He spent five goddamn chapters hyping up Krymov arriving at the Volga Steppe and announcing that the Stalingrad Front had begun. Then he goes “It was 1941, Ukraine”. Literary genius but also he needs to stop edging me and let the Rattenkrieg begin.

Long and verbose, in a good way. However, I'm almost there to having a "When are they gonna get to the fireworks factory" moment.

Really good, a pretty damn interesting and entertaining series of vignettes of people with too many problems to deal with just getting by with a little helping of smack.
