patti smith never fails to write something i want to read. idk if it’s the fact that she grew up 5 miles from where im from, or that she reads hermann hesse, listens to bob dylan and writes poetry, but she is just my favorite writer. the way she writes about her childhood in south jersey and philly is so nostalgic im always in awe of how she remembers such trivial details and strings together a story about it all

i’ve been waiting for mityas trial forever, BUT, “the devil” chapter is genius. ivan is just so interesting (it’s always interesting to talk with an intelligent man!) like this whole chapter is just him wrestling with his subconscious. it reminds me of that young sheldon episode when sheldon’s getting a tooth pulled and solves the unified field theory and wakes up and doesn’t remember how he did it.

why are there two different characters named Kostya and Kolya??? like cmon russian names are hard enough what is this

finally getting to the good stuff. i think ivan is my favorite brother so far. mitya’s going insane & alyosha is kind—he reminds me of pierre from war & peace. the grand inquisitor was food for thought. i liked that bit.

on my russian lit grind i guess. about a quarter of the way through and im liking it so far. not quite sure how to feel about the characters yet but i like alexei and grigory.

it’s hard to pick up the book tbh. i lowkey love the aristocratic plot lines and love interests but ive only really been reading on the plane so i need to work on reading other places bc this book is so big and i don’t wanna keep carrying it around. i wanna watch the movie or mini series to put faces to the names.

feeling tired. i think it’s about to get interesting tho. i got the audio book but it’s a diff translation than the hard copy which is annoying but whatever

was compelled to read this book for some reason. my friend works at barnes and noble so it was discounted and she’s working right now so i’m reading. i’m learning the characters atm, the russian names get me but honestly not that bad so far. not done reading today but my head hurts i needed a break
