2/3's through and the author decides the next page and a half gets to be smut. How do you go from whimsical forests and villages to randomly groping each other and then back to magical innocence. Your dad is missing and you're getting fondled in a hot spring.

the romance is lowkey ruining the book, it feels forced and unnecessary

This is actually very cute and has a much denser plot compared to other books in its genre.
