There's body horror, and then there's detailed descriptions of blood draws. One of those makes me feel sicker than the other.

Coming into this reread with the knowledge that this book is written by a gay man that suffered through the AIDs crisis changes a lot of things. This is not a splatterpunk written for edgy teens. It's a statement on humanity and a mirror held up to the world and what was happening in it 30+ years ago. It's still splatterpunk though

I ran out of Spotify listening hours right at the end of chapter two/part one and it was tragic

Still very much enjoying this book, for a debut it's got really promising writing of forest terrors

I can't believe she left the tent unzipped

Compared to the slow burn that was The Haar, this is full of action and terror

A mix of stomach churning body horror and sentimental thoughts

The first few chapters were sad because of capitalism, now it's a gut punch like Exquisite Corpse. Definitely edging into splatterpunk territory, but I'm here for it

A silly little re-read amidst the biography

Such a refreshing experience to read women written by a woman, who have real thoughts and feelings and problems

Better than Hannibal was at this point, but expectations are so very very low

I have to finish the quadrilogy, no other reason

A bit more fan-service-y than I would've appreciated, but interesting enough that it can be saved from the inevitable 3 star rating
