Insecurity is a lack of faith. And a lack of faith is sin, because it’s signifies a lack of trust in God. When we are insecure about who we are and what our purpose is, it means we don’t trust God with our lives. We don’t believe that what he says about us in his word is true. Insecurity causes us to focus on ourselves and what we want, instead of focusing on him and what he wants.

This chapter talked about how God wants us to have our priorities in order. Our number one priority should be to obey God and follow his Commandments. This chapter talks about the importance of submitting.

You must first submit to the world of God and then through discernment submit to others who have authority over you.

Don’t just submit to anyone foolishly!

Chapter 1 emphasizes how we can draw closer to God bye building a relationship with him. One of the ways that you can build a relationship with him is by getting to know him on a personal level. This chapter references the various names of God that are used to describe his role in our lives. Two of the names that stood out to me were “husband“ and “wonderful counselor“.

Now why would Lexi choose to go to prison instead of fighting the case? Sometimes I feel like she wants to play the victim so badly just because she was a foster child. In my opinion, Lexi is in need of therapy—individual and/or family counseling (to address her family trauma) and grief counseling (to deal with the survivor’s guilt she’s experiencing due to Mia’s passing).

Okay, so I’ve heard a lot of good things about Kristin’s books so I decided to dive into one. I’m like halfway through the book. In my opinion, the book took its time to build the characters backstory and give you more context about their connection to one another, then boom, tragedy occurs. I’m wondering how they’re going to navigate through this!

A few things happened in the last few chapters. What stood out to me was when Paul put his hands around Amber‘s throat and choked her briefly. Is Amber a victim of domestic violence? Is that why the detective took him to the station to question him? Why did Paul and Amber’s sister, Claire share an embrace? Are they having an affair?

He can make up for the bad things that have happened. We must trust him to do those things. We can never move out of the present into the future of what God has for us if we cling to, and live in the past.

The past should not be a place where we live, but something from which we learn. We are to forget “those things which are behind“ and reach “forward to those things which are ahead,“ and we’re to “press towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus“. God is a redeemer and a restore. We need to allow him to be both. He can redeem the past and restore what was lost.
