Main takeaway so far: Agnes is sooo cool

V good but so dense need a break every couple of chapters

Reading bc won the Booker Prize! When the shortlist came out this was not one of the titles I was interested in and now I know why: it is v clearly written by and for men 🫥 maybe it will get better towards the end

3.5, would recommend as interesting mystery read

I read this in a couple of hours and while she seems amazing (if we ignore the went to space w katy perry thing) this book was ehhhh

Much denser than Sula, really does feel like reading Classic Literature which I refused to do in high school but am admittedly enjoying now

The adult characters are quite boring and a bit contrived but the children are fantastic and beautiful!!! Climate change theme felt heavy handed but I guess it is genuinely an existential threat to all life so perhaps that’s for the best lol

This writing is excellent it really is but it’s also SO violent omg

My first ever horror novel I think (an accident… simply did not read the synopsis) did actually like it but feeling significantly less motivated to learn to scuba dive now lol 🤧 also Miri was boring af her character was useless

I found the total lack of structure in the plot quite jarring but also effectively read this in two days so did still really enjoy it

Unfortunately I’m not enjoying this. Not because I hugely disagree with what he’s saying, just because I do not like how he’s saying it. All very male (derogatory) Also I feel the fact checking pre publication must have been verrry light handed

I famously do not read fantasy but we’re committing to a long running bit and reading this for book club … so far I am not impressed but I am trying to keep an open mind

Took a two hour lunch break to finish it but I DID IT and I would recommend this book to anyone it is excellent
