About to read chapter nine and I’m lwk scared bc in my old notes I wrote down “On pause bc of nine”

I dropped this book a year ago (and removed it from my shelves) about half way in because I got really uncomfortable with the SA stuff. I don’t personally have a history with that stuff, I just couldnt handle how gruesome it was. I’m actually pretty excited to start this again. I liked it the first time I read it.

I think if I read this book for school, I would’ve written an absolutely killer essay on it. I love this more than I thought I would, especially with this second half.

I can tell I am going to love this second part!!! The ending of chapter 16 was very promising.

Someone left the smallest, most useless bookmark on one of the pages. Incredibly thin and in the middle of the crease, just barely visible. I’m liking this book a lot. There’s a ton I could say about it but I won’t because I’m writing this half asleep.

There’s definitely a theme with toxic masculinity here that I notice, especially during chapter 8. Sadly it’s summer break so I can’t be bothered to do a proper analysis.

Very good. I plan on reading more African literature this summer because I have Disgrace up next and I thought I should just embrace it.

I loved that Abby scene way more than I did the first time I read it. I think it’s one of my favorite scenes of the book now. Wow. Also my copy completely fell apart while I was on vacation and I couldn’t read it for a bit, which was fun :/

The previous owner of my book wrote "I will not fall asleep, I will not" on page 113. I have to disagree. It's not the most interesting part of the book (so far, that was Antoine's breakdown two days before) but it isn't boring. I didn't like it on my first read, but I like it now.

I locked in and got to my favorite part of the book :D

The previous owner (or one of them) of this copy is a Marylyn Olsen (She’s been long dead by now, it’s fine). She’s left a few small annotations so far. I always love seeing stuff like that.

I started this one by accident. I got bored during lunch and started to read it. Ended up reading a lot more than I thought I would. It's going a lot faster than I remember. I can only imagine the movie while reading now.
