Revisiting this book for the first time in 30 years I'm finding a training manual for the young codependent.

The destruction of the "valuable" cupid figurine has been discovered. Poor Jasper gets massaged like old bread dough every time our narrator doesn't know how to respond. So he's really in for a beating when Maxim calls Mrs Danvers in to get to the bottom of this drama and won't let Miss Thing run away to escape her mortification.

So nice to revisit this classic both for itself as well as a beautifully constructed novel to escape the series of short stories I've been trying to read lately.

I just adore the nice combination of strangeness and silliness that carries this serious story along. Not so crazy about the f***ing LOVE TRIANGLE subplot.
