Very fast read

Patchy writing but I'm enjoying the "curious incident" vibe.

Opening pieces were brilliant but now we have to focus on the ridiculous expensive designer clothes he prefers and the ways cashiers in the airport annoy him. Does he not realize the cashiers are required to ask those upsell questions, and it's not their personal choice he's commenting on so snarkily?

Sadly I have to admit I'm just not getting along with this one. I haven't played this much sudoku to avoid reading a book I wanted to love since that Hanya Yanagihara book about Hawaii a few years back.

Wow this one's a stunner!

I love this message that fear and gratitude don't go together ... the book advises when you are afraid about something to list out some related things you are grateful for.

This has already covered everything I expected and then some ... hard to imagine how there can be so much more territory.

Peter spends a week in Swedish city Riga waiting for the ice to thaw. They host him and let him examine and sketch their fortresses and give him a big send-off. INCOGNITO Peter gets pissed because one guard ordered him (again: incognito) away from the fortress. Thirteen years later orders the "accursed" city raided and conquers the entire nation because of his rude treatment.

Spiked ensure is such a perfect detail.

We are out of Anne Tyler territory and now I'm reminded of the author's earlier (and wonderful) Big Machine.

This feels like one of those old Anne Tyler books where characters would go in unpredictable ways.

Oh sure let's cry! I didn't know we would be crying.

The audio book lost my place and went back 25 pages or so and I am enjoying it so much I didn't mind a bit.

I don't get along so well with these loooong paragraphs.

So good. The Wexfords aren't my favorites but I always enjoy them and they do give me the Rendell fix i need when there are no Barbara Vines or standalone RR titles available.

Really good but I have to go back because who were those two people in the first chapter??

Nice little heart tug with the book this morning.

So difficult for a gen x reader to focus when the book has a character named "Mrs. Garrett".

This bickering couple has me rooting for a runaway bus to enter the scene.
