I like the idea for the setting of this one, Mexico. And it's supposed to be comic. But I just finished reading Lady, Here's Your Wreath. And the comic scene in it (I think it was a comic scene) putting the clothes on the stiffening corpse didn't work out all that well. Chase uses some wry one-liners effectively in his fiction. But Lady fell flat. Let's see about this one. Haven't seen the 1995 film version.

A book so politically incorrect that its offensive title has been changed twice! From "Chinks" to "Chinamen" and to "Dolls." My hunch is that number three is due for a change, too. "From Hell's heart, I stab at thee," should have been written by Chase, instead of Melville.
