The journey begins

Gus and Call are deeply in love!!!

the start of a long journey! chapter 1 did an excellent job of establishing the world and the characters who live within it. Gus seems to be a pretty convincing main character, and Call makes for a great deuteragonist. Looking forward to where this goes.

What an excellent start

Finished “The Man who Cried God”. Wow! What an excellent beginning. The prologue didn’t hook me at all but as soon as the novel became more structured with the arrival of the 7 pilgrims, I found it easier to become invested.

The book’s framing (being a pastiche of The Canterbury Tales) is fresh and vivid through a sci-fi lens.

Part 1 was an excellent meditation on dogma and what it means to be human.

So far, excellent! A brilliant, slow rumination on death and repression in a Deep South town. Each character is so quietly characterised with little, hard to notice traits that create a great sense of realism.

a chunk into book 2 now. i am enchanted!

chapter 3 ‘hit-the-spittoon’

chapter 2 ‘mercurochrome’ complete. such a vast, sprawling narrative in an unusual and gripping format. im hooked.

It took me 40 minutes to read a single chapter of the novel and I am bewitched. So dense and heavy, yet beautiful and vivid. The opening chapter focuses not on our protagonist, but rather primarily his view on his grandfather with subtle clues as to how this past connects to his future. I cannot wait to read more!
