Reading this a year or so ago started the questions that have now snowballed into my thesis. Really excited to be reading Middleton again (and meeting him soon!) as I start my research and writing in earnest.

Apparently an engraving on a pillar in Spain circa 500 BCE carries more weight for interpreting Exodus than other passages in Exodus do. Why’d I waste all that time and money on seminary?

Reading for my upcoming thesis work. Not persuaded by Levenson at all, but having a lot of fun interacting with scholarship on my research topic.

The first chapter was long, dense, and arguably should’ve been an appendix or epilogue; he used a lot of terms that he goes to great pains to define later in the book, and his usage couldn’t be understood well apart from his detailed definitions.

But now we’re in chapter two, and he’s really cookin’
