Apparently an engraving on a pillar in Spain circa 500 BCE carries more weight for interpreting Exodus than other passages in Exodus do. Why’d I waste all that time and money on seminary?

Reading for my upcoming thesis work. Not persuaded by Levenson at all, but having a lot of fun interacting with scholarship on my research topic.

The first chapter was long, dense, and arguably should’ve been an appendix or epilogue; he used a lot of terms that he goes to great pains to define later in the book, and his usage couldn’t be understood well apart from his detailed definitions.
