'A story doesn’t work unless I believe it, unless it is something I want to say, unless it springs from my own emotion and experience, unless I can identify with the people. The stories that work come to life as I write them, the people as real as those I meet every day. When a novel is done, I always feel a pang of loss at parting from good friends.' — Jack Williamson

Bobby Underwood is on page 41 of 288 of Dark City Dames: The Women Who Defined Film Noir
I'm guessing on pages, since I'm skipping around. Reading the Evelyn Keyes section. Lovely, but can't say I'm terribly fond of her or a lot of the other Hollywood types in her orbit. Liked Jane Greer far more.

The biggest issue is having your packages delivered to the wrong address, despite both their and your address being clearly marked. Doesn’t matter if a signature is required either, it’ll just get left at the wrong address anyway, no signature obtained. Or it’s like in this mini-documentary. ‘“I’ve never been touched by someone who loved me before,” Mandy whispered. I could feel her warm breath against my skin as she spoke; it reminded me of lingering cigarette smoke in a dark room — vaguely sensed, more than seen.’ — NEBRASKA

"I was sorting the photos and stopped when I came across one of Alisha Fontaine. She was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. Even in a photo she took a man’s breath away, and I found it difficult to take my eyes off her. When I finally managed to look up, Morris was smiling. He knew he’d found the right bait." — Costa del Sol, FREE to download thru December 14th.

"The first time I saw her she was standing along a lonely backroad in the cold Kentucky rain. There was not another car in sight — broke down or otherwise — but even if there had been, she’d have looked out of place. She was elegant and beautiful in some indefinable way that transcended reality; she seemed more a mirage in the rain, or some angel washed down from heaven in the storm." — Angel in the Rain

“Rule one of reading other people's stories is that whenever you say ‘Well that's not convincing' the author tells you that's the bit that wasn't made up. This is because real life is under no obligation to be convincing.” — Neil Gaiman
