This book gives no indication that any one sentence will be preceded or anteceded by another.

There are so many interpersonal layers and secrets, all masked by the authors jump-skip writing style

I'm so confused. The first chapter fully covered a twenty year timespan that seems to be the entire plot. So what are the remaining 530 pages about? Maybe it was the executive summary.


Also, the writing style is...unique. The was one sentence that took up a quarter of a page, which had 7 commas and 2 em-dashes.

The stats and analysis make sense describing the problem .. not enough homes, too much NIMBY politics, the flight from cities. But so far I'm not able to connect these issues to the opening vision of the book.

He's already the richest man in America by the year 1855. What can the remaining 2/3 of the book even be about?

Was so close to finishing it last night but just couldn't hold off sleep any longer

She does a good job at speeding through unimportant events and really slowing down for critical plot points. I wouldn't understand the silver-working unless it was well explained, and it is!
