Pages 400-500 were a slog but Melville dropped some bars I can’t lie

Wow this guy loves all things whaling. I’m enjoying the little tangents he goes on, it breaks up the story nicely. I was really sad when Stubb killed their first sperm whale though :/, and then all those sharks too, gruesome

It's taken me a bit longer than I expected to get into it. Happened around 150, but I'm hooked. The writing style, especially the endless monologues took me a bit to get used to, as well, but I love them now. The way the Big D gets emotions across in real time as the character is speaking is incredible and entirely unique. Like nothing I've read before.
