Everyone was quiet on the flight back to Islamabad. My mind drifted to a bit of philosophy I'd recently read, attributed to the ancient Greek thinker Heraclitus: No man can step in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man.

Mc: Hi.
Him: Hi
Me: How are you?
Him: Pretty good, you?
Me: Pretty good.
Him: Let's continue this awkward silence in person.

Him: Looks like it's going to be overcast tonight so no meteor shower.
Me: My primary interest is not the meteor shower.
Him: Oh. Then after school?

When I didn't respond, she kept talking. "I don't mean that you're a bad friend or anything. But you're slightly tortured, and the way you're tortured is sometimes also painful for, like, everyone around you"

"How are you, Davis?" she asked.
"Things are good. As you may have heard, I am kind of an
orphan, but I am well. How are you?"
"Who looks after you these days?" she asked.
"Well, everybody and nobody, I guess," he said. "I mean, we have a house manager, and there's a lawyer guy who does the money stuff."

Appreciative of her giving insight of her life in general but specifically reading about her college experience. Balancing “normal life” with “student life” while being “the Malala” would try to weigh anyone down.
