June is beginning to feel guilty for writing this book because of the criticism that she is receiving about how the book is racist and insensitive. June goes to a Chinese American social club and talks about her book and afterward an old man talks to her about his father's story. This makes June feel ashamed about exploiting this history. I think that this is touching because she feels remorse for her actions.

June is experiencing what it is like to be a best-selling author and how her publishing company is building her up so much. Throughout this experience June continues to compare this experience to her debut novel which was a failure. These two experiences are very different for June and I enjoy watching her perspective change. There is a thought however that this is fake because she stole the manuscript from Athena.

June takes Athena's manuscript about WW1 and she decides to edit the first draft and complete it. She then goes to her editor and works to get it published. There is a conflict between what is morally correct and whether what she is doing is wrong or not. The reader is forced to form their own opinion on what June is doing and if she should give Athena credit or not, creating tension for the reader.

The author creates the relationship between Athena, an astounding author, and her friend June, who is always trying to measure up to her. June is not close to Athena but they hang out a lot. The reader sees the resentment that June feels to Athena, creating complexity in her emotions when Athena dies in front of her. June feels a weird version of grief because she doesn't know how to feel about Athena's death.

Susan took Joe to her Dad's wedding and as the night went on they decided to make a move on each other and Susan called Joe Bobby. There is a conflict between Joe and Bobby in Susan's mind. Candace comes to pick Susan up but then Susan makes a comment about Candace's boyfriend. I think that there is tension between the two friends, and that they are trying to learn how to still be friends as they grow.

The team prepares for the game with the boys team, and Susan is made team captain. When the game finally comes the team shows up late and makes fun of the girls team. The game does not happen because the boys don't respect the girls. I think this shows a difference between the attitudes of the boys versus the girls in this book. And how the boys do not respect the girls or take responsibility for their actions.

Susan apologizes to Bobby for her actions and she feels better about herself. At a party she challenges the boys soccer team to a game because they don't respect the girls team. I think this is beginning the climax of the story, because Susan is trying to show that they have a purpose for playing soccer and that they should be taken seriously. Even though Susan is scared for the game, she is ready to prove herself.

They lose the game and Bobby is disappointed that they lied to him. They realize how much work and effort Bobby puts into the team. Susan and Tina have a conversation about their friendship and they have a better understanding of each other.

The soccer team goes to Wisconsin for their first game. They are nervous but excited to finally prove themselves. I like how the author portrays the characters because we are able to see their character depth and how others' actions affect them. They must feel a lot of pressure to win the game because they get made fun of at school and they are disregarded because there has never been a girls sports team before.

Susan is building her relationship with Joe and they get closer and share their hopes and dreams. I like this because their relationship currently is friends and they have a genuine connection. Joe tries to kiss Susan but she leans away, and I think this part is important because it forces them to share their views on their relationship and what they want out of it.

The team gets uniforms and learns that they have their first game. They need to raise money in order to go, so they have a car wash. I liked this because it shows the girls start to become teammates and deeply bond with each other. Joe's relationship with Susan also develops and he comes to support her at the car wash and I think this is an important point in their relationship.

Susan improves at soccer and scores a goal. Her relationship with Candace has some problems because she quit soccer and Susan didn't. Candace gets a boyfriend and Susan doesn't think that he is good enough for her. I think that this shows character development in Susan because it shows that she has real feelings and makes her more realistic to the reader. Along with this it shows that she is a good friend.

She takes lessons with Joe. I think it is important for her to have this relationship and learn what it is like to have a relationship with a guy and isn't constantly thinking about sleeping with him. Susan remembers something Bobby said but she was too attracted to him to notice. I think that this is an important theme to explore and the fact that there is a downside to being so attracted to him.

Susan tries to get Bobby's attention however, Bobby is in a bad mood and pushes the girls harder. This is because he wants them to be serious about soccer and cares about the girls improving. I think that this makes Bobby seem like a real person with feelings and intentions. I like this because it allows us to see character development and the relationships between the characters.

Susan finds out that her dad is getting married to Poppy and she is asked to be the maid of honor. I think that this will spark some conflict between Susan, her mom and her dad. Susan also tries to get the attention of Bobby and it isn't working but it shows that she is committed to getting his attention. Candace is telling her not to go for him, and I agree. However, Susan's intentions are still unclear.

Susan's character is developing and we are seeing a deeper side of her. She made the soccer team along with her friends and she is building her relationship with Bobby. There is a theme developing of the idea that men look down on women and don't respect them. This is centered around the boys thinking that the girls joining the soccer team is "cute". I don't like this idea and it lowers my thoughts about the boys.

This book starts with Susan telling the audience about how she wants to tryout for the new girls soccer team. She wants to try out because of the coach who is really attractive. I think that this is an interesting plot to create, because it is focusing mainly on Susan's lust towards coach McMann and not focusing on her own interests and opinions. I hope that we begin to learn about Susan's character more.

I think that this book quickly hooks the reader into the story. It is from the perspective of Daunis who is part of a native tribe, she has the conflict between being "loyal" to her American family or to her native family. I think that this book will come up with a lot of conflict between these two families. Daunis meets a boy, Jamie in the hockey rink and I think that they are going to have a relationship.

Mami is controlling and unaccepting of X's interests and writing. X is starting to break out of her shell by joining the poetry club and finds a true passion for sharing her poems. I really enjoy seeing her character develop and find more passions. We can see her and her twin build their relationship further and they become more supportive of each other. I like seeing their connection grow and them having support.

X is found kissing a boy and we see the punishments that she receives for it. The extent to which she is getting punished is extreme for what she did. This shows that her parents are really faithful to God and want the best for their children. There is a strong contrast between wanting the best and harshly punishing, we can see the effect that it has on X and how it changes how she feels about Aman and herself.

X grows her relationship with Aman, and shes trying to clear her conscience because she very close to dating. I think that Aman is good for X but I think that shes going to go down a wrong path with him. Because shes keeping a lot of secrets from her mom and not sharing details about her relationship with anyone, which is probably going to result in a situation that X doesn't want to be in.

This shows a deeper connection that these siblings have and that they truly care about each other. Our protagonist, Xiomara talks a lot about God, this can represent the impact her mother has made on her. She says that her mother was in love with God and never wanted to be married to Xiomara's father. She talks about how she wants to make her voice heard but because of her body people don't listen to what she has to say, but she writes that when she got a notebook she finally felt that she had a voice.
