I often disagree with Papa because he beats his children and has a very rigid view of what is sinning and how people are supposed to act. I think he acts this way because at one point in the book he talked about how someone from the church burned his hands when he sinned, and so when his children sinned he burnt their feet. I think he has been slightly conditioned to think this way.

I disagree with Papa because he has been influenced by the standard Western ideals of Christianity and he is very religous causing him to treat his children badly because they 'sinned' or did something that goes against what he believes in.

Unspoken rules affect how we belong in groups because in the book Kambili has very different rules in her household than Amaka does. One example being how Amaka asks them, "Do you have a schedule at home that you follow every day?"(Adichie 124). They have different rules and lifestyles which makes it hard for Kambili to feel like she belongs.
