Oh my, this is really hard for me to read. So far it is having the same effect as the movie Platoon did so many years ago. It's recreation of war-the smell and fear and inhumanity -becomes palpable thru the tightly packed shockingly jarring words that keep coming like the rat a tat tat tat of the guns. Very hard but will it be worthwhile? I will try to stay.

Chapter 65

Chapter 18... everyone in neighborhood had put a stone on the past. No one would talk about the communists, fascist, monarchist exploitation they thought that everything that had happened before was past and to live quietly, they put a stone on it. And so, without knowing it, they continued it.They were immersed in the things of before and we(children )kept them inside us too

Starting part three. The jury's out on this. Unless things turn around in part 3 this is a real disappointment. Lucy seems like a helpless hopeless victim and the plot seems too obvious but....maybe part three will have the unexpected twist. Hope lives on.

Beautifully written but I am having trouble identifying with this book. Odd, since I do find the premise true and and currently dealing with bitter sweetness in my own experience

Chapter 7

I’m loving this book. The writing is informative and lyrical. The scratch board art is lovely. This is a book you can read around with. It isn’t necessary to read in page order, each tree is a story in itself. A Lovely read.

Loving this. If you lived through beetle mania or just listened to any recording of Yesterday, this is must read. You curl up on your couch for a lovely, warm and funny chat with Paul as he reminesces on the people and events surrounding him as the songs emerged. I feel like Paul McCartney is becoming my best friend. Wonderful.

This is a beautiful book. I 💕 this story. Beautifully written. Ideas profound and at the same time simple. Passages that force me to stop mid page and think. The imagination and creativity.. amazing

FINALLY at pg100 story is beginning to come together. You really have to persevere with baldacci to get the story rolling.

This novel grabs you and doesn't let go. Heart thumping tension keeps you on the razors edge between terror and anxiety for our girls and Luca. Trust no one, but how to survive without trust? Many questions come to the fore, and answers as well. This narrative makes clear that no one becomes a migrant unless there is no other option.

Wow! This story grabs you and really takes you on a fast ride. My thoughts are whirling around with Lydia's...where does she go? What does she do? She cant just give up....

I don't know where this story is going yet, but I confess its cIght me and I will see it through to the end. Certainly hope it takes me somewhere.

A challenging slog through unfamiliar names and locations. I'd appreciate a more detailed map, and more pictures to help me attach the name with a face.

So far, so good. I'm thinking its may be too predictable; but I will definitely finish it to find out.
