I often disagree with Rashad's dad because it doesn't make sense to me that he would be hesitant to take his son's side in a situation like this is one. I think after learning that he was in a similar situation but in the opposite role when he was a cop, it is easier to distinguish why he would almost define Paul. he knows a bit of what might've gone through Paul's brain and why he might've done this.

Unspoken rules affect groups by setting a standard at which people should act in the group. In All American Boys, Quinn witnesses Paul's beating of Rashad but cannot say anything about due to his familial ties to Paul's family, causing strife when Quinn feels he has to say something.

I thought it was interesting that when Rashad was in the hospital after the beating, his father did not take his side or support him. He assumed that Rashad wasn't telling the whole story or that maybe his jeans were sagging. Rashad tried to explain that he was an innocent boy who just happened to be sagging his pants, to which his dad said, "If it walks like a duck, it talks like a duck" (Reynolds 49).

I researched the meaning of toxic positivity in John Hopkin's newsletter. Toxic positivity is the "overgeneralized mandate calling for 'good vibes' & 'happy feels' that often result in the invalidation of genuine emotion" (Felix). Most of the time, toxic positivity is used to make someone feel better or others comfortable around you by trying to be positive all of the time and not be negative or a 'debby downer'.

I researched where/when the term 'toxic positivity' was coined. I learned that it has been researched by phycologists since at least 1980. Though the term isn't "officially defined in scientific literature" (Resiliance Lab: Toxic Positivity), it is generally described as a pressure to always be happy and have good vibes.

Montag has killed Beatty, the two other firemen, and the Mechanical Hound. He on top of this, burns down his own home and proceeds to literally just walk away from the scene. But the craziest part (to me) was that his wife turned him/rang the alarm. Beatty confirmed my suspisions when Montag asked "'Was it my wife turne d in the alarm?'"(Bradbury 110), when he nodded to answer the question.

I am currently very confused with Montag. One second he's angry, but i'm not sure if it's about books or his job or his wife, and the next he is border-line rebelling. He brings out books in front of women, disobeys Faber, and also- associates himself with Fader period. I'm not sure what Montag is planning to do, or is currently doing.

I wrote that Beatty was explaining to Montag that books are disruptive and offensive to the reader/society. Because there are so many books that are offensive to many different groups the solution is to "Burn it" (Bradbury 57.)
