Hil is on page 30 of 392 of In the Name of Humanity: The Government of Threat and Care
Really excited about the premise, though I) very unacademically) can't stop wishing they'd called it Oh, the Humanity! instead.

Perfect French practice for an uncritical Christie afficionado!

A clear sign that I'm overwhelmed at work is that I only read cozy(ish) British crime. Rather like this one.

Hil
Hil is starting The Colour of Magic (Discworld, #1)
After two chilling SF(ish ) books that hit way too close to home in terms of their limited faith in humanity, I need some Pratchett to lift my spirits!

Hil
Hil is 80% done with Det kinesiske rommet
Utilitarian mind viruses, tech bros and existential dread: this feels like analogue doom-scrolling. Except that I'm focused enough to read 350 pages in 24h. And except that I'm greatly enjoying myself in spite of the dread instead of the other way around. Pretty sure I'll inhale the rest of this book instead of going to sleep tonight!

Hil
Hil is on page 2 of 265 of Wyrd Sisters (Discworld, #6; Witches, #2)
Two pages in, and Pratchet has already hit the sweet spot of my rebellious inner teenager who had had all they could take of enforced church attendance: "A key to the understanding of all religion is that a god's idea of amusement is Snakes and Ladders with greased rungs." Clearly, this is perfect thesis survival literature for me!

I don't have the foggiest idea what's going on, but somehow that's actually not annoying!
