Clare is starting Berlin: Life and Loss in the City That Shaped the Century

A superbly written account with Berlin as the main character within which famous names exist. In turns, traumatic and dark whilst maintaining the readers time travel at a pace that matches the world events.

The section relating events of April 1945, are terrible to read but covered with sensitivity. I would highly recommend.

I can not believe that I have not engaged with this book until this year. I am listening on audible and the narration is provided by a reader who reminds me of a wise elder regaling the village with tales of long ago. I am so sad when I arrive at my destination too quickly! What a warm hug of a story…
