I’m enjoying this but an observation: randomly chucking in Latin or French phrases without offering a translation doesn’t make you look sophisticated it makes you look like a twat

I know i knowwwww im reacting too many books at once BUT in my defence I’ve got a sore back and I can’t move and a book about all the crazy people who live in my country isn’t the most compelling read right now

interesting. I saw a review for Katabasis that said that it read as if Kuang was desperate for us to know how intelligent she is. that rings true with babel for me.

starting to understand the structure of the book, making it much easier to read. also reading in french is much easier now (unsurprisingly)

holy dialogue batman! i also just looked it up and this was written in 1951! while the writing style feels authentic to this time period, it is not disconnected from the current, as one often finds
