Dang. Things are picking up.

This is getting interesting!! I honestly don’t know who to trust and it’s really fun to just enjoy watching the plot unfold :)

I’m so scared I’m so attached to these characters already I want everyone to live happily ever after 😭

Love the word shaker story

That last chapter was tough.

“She couldn’t tell exactly where the words came from. What mattered was that they reached her.” Fav quote so far. Also “The Standover Man” was awesome. I’m warming up to the writing style a bit :)

I’m enjoying the story, but I’m not sure I’m liking the narration as much. I get the point of making death the narrator, but so far I’m not liking the style of writing.

Saddest chapter ever

Ngl this book is very cutesy for it being about a 12 year old boy

I like the parallel concept of her “Everyone I love dies” and his “I can never save those I love,” but I am not really enjoying the execution. This books seems steeped in hate, rather than rooted in fierce love, like the main characters claim.

Love the chapters about Mrs B and Colonel Freeleigh

“That was the huge regret of her life, in a way. The one thing she had most enjoyed touching and listening and looking at she hadn’t saved. John was far out in the meadow country, dated and boxed and hidden under grasses, and nothing remained of him but his high silk hat and his cane and his good suit in the closet. So much of the rest of him had been devoured by moths.” I’m SORRY??? Crying I guess.

“Mrs. Bentley was a saver. She saved tickets, old theatre programs, bits of lace, scarves, rail transfers; all the tags and tokens of existence. ‘I’ve a stack of records,’ she often said. ‘Here’s Caruso. That was in 1916, in New York; I was sixty and John was still alive. Here’s June Moon, 1924, I think, right after John died.’

Loving the whimsy and warm tone so far. I’m a little perplexed on where this story will go, and what the point is, but I love the perspective and thoughtful pondering. It’s summer in the first 20 pages.
