The way that ellwood has changed SO MUCH is literally breaking my heart and his gaunt loves him more than ever my heart hurts for him too i cannot do this bro

This book is so well written the love, the war, the friendships all of it is just so beautiful. Both Gaunt and Ellwood have two very different story lines and I am on the edge of my seat for both. i came in for the tragic yearning (and while i am LOVING it so so much) i am absolutely adoring the rest of it very much just such a beautiful, hearbreaking, lovely book

i cannot stop thinking about how before Gaunt “died” how him and Elly were so relived to see the other. not a minute goes by i dont think of it

"if ellwood were a girl, he might have held his hand, kissed his temple. he might have bought a ring and tied their lives together" i just realized even if both lived VERY long lives gay marriage atill would never be legalized in their lives

"every poem had been written about him, every song composed for him" whenever gaunt says “Elly”… bro i cant. this is the most painful miscommunication trope (good way) i have ever read and the yearning is causing ME pain "sometimes he imagined what gaunt would look like when he was old, and knew with dizzying certainty that he would love him even when Gaunt was balding and wizened and spent" istg is he dies

I think this is the first time I have ever read a book that contained this amount of yearning but cannot distinguish who is “yearning” more which is one thing about this book I find the most beautiful.
The war and its effect in the characters is so painfully well written and how the other is their only “tie” to who they used to be just really shows how this book will inevitably break me in the end.

PUTTING A LETTER FROM YOUR BEST FRIEND YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH OVER YOUR HEART WHERE PEOPLE PUT PAGES OF THE BIBLE I AM LITERALLY SCREAMING AND ABOUT TO THROW UP NO LIE AND OMG I AM NOT OKAY THIS IS LIKE ALREADY MY FAVORITE BOOK ALSO THE FLASHBACK SCENE YEAH BRO IT IS NOT CASUAL AND I HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN YEARNING LIKE THIS BEFORE “ you are the poetry ” oh just kill me already (ntm he signed yours, gaunt just btw)

This book is INSANE when I say there were tears in my eyes I am not joking and probably i am being dramatic but oh well the absolute YEARNING in this FIRST CHAPTER was honestly better than many many books I have read LIKE OH MY GOSH I WAS LITERALLY SHAKING anyways its so beautiful (i just know it will be reread at some point) the writing is so good and I know i will be in TEARS by the end of this book
