This one started out with so much promise but I'm finding it hard to care about a 40 year old Kerouacs drunken escapades or his friends or the "sharing" of lovers....gross.....I'm skeptical that any ending can save this one, this damn poem at the end better be good

...and with stone knives they sawed open their chests and drew out their palpitating hearts and offered them to the idols that were there, and they kicked the bodies down the steps, and the Indian butchers who were waiting below cut off the arms and feet and flayed the skin off the faces, and prepared afterwards like glove leather with the beards on, and kept those for the festivals when they celebrated dunken orgies

_Gazing on such wonderful sights, we did not know what to say, or whether what appeared before us was real, for on one side, on the land, there were great cities, and in the lake ever so many more, and the lake itself was crowded with canoes, and in the Causeway were many bridges at intervals, and in front of us stood the great City of Mexico, and we -- we did not even number four hundred soldiers!..._
