I mock Patterson every time I am in a book store based sheerly on the amount of books he has in there so I thought I’d see what’s going on in these. I have gotten 30 minutes in and I am so pissed off about how milk-toast every part of this is. Patterson has a massive tell don’t show issue in both his descriptions AND dialogue like the reader is stupid all the characters are flat and bland. Poorly written women

My bookmark. It took me a minute to realize that he wasn’t JUST talking poetically. The diction of this reminds me of a lot of the dialogue from some of my favorite graphic novelists, probably because they read this. Yerp

It’s really fascinating to hear how far back the trope of ‘upper class above ground, lower class below ground’ goes, which totally makes sense because there’s a lot of historical and logical basis for why things would evolve like that. Also this being written in 1895 and his immediate analysis being that there’s was no more gender or class because there was no more hardship. Hm.

Maybe it’s because I have the hindsight of a lot more time travel media but I would’ve taken a lot more precautions than this guy did

Im used to reading ancient mystery novels where the detective spends about half the book drinking bourbon but something about a book being in a modern era really puts the alcoholism into perspective
