“All power is limited” Alia said
“And danger may come from behind the mountains,” Stilgar said.
“It’s something in that order,” Alia said.
Stilgar nodded, his gaze fastened on Paul’s face. “But whatever comes from behind the mountains must cross the dunes.”

Love the content. The life of everyday workers during the feudal area is something I had never given much thought to, nor to their resistance to economic exploitation, but it was alive as it is now. The authors writing is overly convoluted in my honest opinion.

“She looked at Paul’s face, his eyes - the inward stare. And she knew where she had seen such a look before: pictured in records of disasters - on the faces of children who experienced starvation or terrible injury. The eyes were like pits, mouth a straight line, cheeks indrawn.

It’s the look of terrible awareness, she thought, of someone forced to the knowledge of his own mortality”

I can’t place the right word for it, but Herbert has an interesting way of describing a scene, or interactions, providing characters thoughts as they speak with one another. The way he alludes to larger aspects of the story in the beginning are fun.

Have you ever read a novel and been glad you saw the movie first?
