I like most of it so far. Currently on Maxim 20. You will get some practical maxims such as the use of discretion and modest speech. Then there's phrases like: "They are immortal because it's immortal," and you only have to go "bruh." Otherwise, a lot of it is good, simple, and advisable.

I began reading this book when it was summarized to me that it's similar to Machivelli but with more emphasis on Catholic morals, assisting laymen and all manner of devout men to navigate difficult societies without sin. Because I like figurehead such as Cardinal Richelieu, I suspect that I may also like Fr. Gracian S.J. work, too. Jesus says, "Be wise as serpants but innocent as doves."

It’s interesting, I’d say. Mostly good so far with solid stuff. There is one line where the author claims (without any citation) that Saturnalia was just reappropriated to Christmas, a claim as old as a certain Lutheran historian and many later unconventional Protestants would adopt. Of course, I say it’s false but there’s all too many other books that discuss that trope. Other than that, I like the rest!

So far, Abraham’s writing on Harkers interactions in the Carpathian’s through journaling, as well as his very descriptive dialogues with Count Dracula just KEEPS the reader on edge and interested about the mysterious figure from Eastern Europe who purchases a house in England.
