TALK ABOUT HAVING A VISCERAL REACTION. A friend recommended this book solely on the first chapter, and I now understand why.
The introduction and prologue are excellent pieces of writing as well. I don't know how I'd never heard of this novel until today. (oh right, because we tend to uplift white writers and negate black geniuses)
