Already MUCH better than last book. I was worried we were going to get an excessive amount of “remember this?” From last book because of the telling not showing issues. But it wasn’t that bad! Book toc tropes still there but, embarrassingly, it has a couple I actually like this time 🫣

CAMERON YOU ARE SO DUMB

I was surprised at just how much my lip curled with disgust to read about the tio’s scheming. For some reason a tragedy that pushes Esperanza’s family to the US is fine, but a tragedy follow by malicious people taking advantage of Esperanza and her mother? I can’t stand it.
I feel like there’s something to analyze here. I can’t quite put my finger on it.

In this chunk of reading I came to the conclusion that Cameron is very immature and the he and Tova have a cute dynamic. Him and Avery too. When ever he's alone or complaing about life, this man is insufferable. But when he's with people? He makes me smile. Interesting way to write a character

I have fallen in love with all the characters. Even the ones that seem like dead beats (looking at you Cameron). I’m very excited to see how these stories come together

Also a low stakes read for finals so I don’t get too sucked in (but heaven knows I can’t cope without a book of some kind)

I find myself not confused in what is happening (in this mystery-like plot) but more confused WHY it’s happening. And I quite enjoy it! I understand nearly all of it, except the motivations, what does our villain get out of this?? I must know. (It’s purposefully being kept from us).

I am also u sure of my feelings for Elenora/Ellen/Ella. Like sometimes I dislike her, other times I pity her. Don’t like her yet
