Carrie is starting The Bear and the Nightingale (The Winternight Trilogy, #1)
Another that may leave my tbr pile and house quickly. It falls into the category of "I remember nothing except that I liked it when I read it a long time ago but I never finished series for a mysterious reason i dont know." Present Me knows that this is a red flag that I should NOT bother buying the book but Past Me know that.

Hmmmmmmm it DOES read like a YA, so idk how this will go. Its still in the set-up part where the author wants excuses for exposition, the problem is she's having the main character be a bit pushy/unsubtle to get it in ways I just find a bit immature. Unchill. Its set at college but she's early admission, so its feeling more high school than I prefer.

I know i swore off YA but I think this is one of the very few supposed to be good enough to be worth it. So we'll see! I dont think i have anymore YA on my TBR and I avoid picking up anymore either. Not everything is as good as hunger games....

I'm two chapters in and its very....................its very man (derogatory). I dont know how this will go. I guess maybe plot is going to have to carry me through this one. I feel like I'm reading a dead wife montage - you know exactly what I mean from movies. I feel like Smoking Ben Affleck right now.

This is darling, I love it.

I am still convinced I can finish all of my unread books before I move. This is 1 of...46 I think. It comes out to about 150 pages per day perhaps.

I want to move end of November. My brain whispered to me "what if....you finish all the books on your tbr so you go with a fresh start" its such a terrible idea. If I'm on here nonstop then you'll know I've been unable to defeat the idea.

I know I buy too many books bc the employees recognized me AND knew what I was there to buy bc they know my taste. I had to go to a second bookstore though bc they were sold out already 😲

Generally I think its a easy fun time, but the main character is so 'noble' it makes me sick. If someone tries to kill me on the street, and someone else shows up to beat that persons ass, I would be their number one cheerleader, like, I will pull pompoms out of my ass and yell "hit em with the chair!" (I would provide the chair). Not tell them they dont need to do violence on my behalf blah blah

Audiobook via libby. I've sworn off YA but from reviews this is the sort of silly games-based thing that will be good for chores and long drive tomorrow, and idc about continuing series. So far, it lives up - i think everyone looks like bikers maybe? Idk, i am cackling 🤣 and her edgy tattoo that forms the constellation...wait for it...orions belt 🤣 girl thats just three dots

Okay, ditching strange the dreamer. One of the few YA i had remaining on my tbr. I will avoid them like plague in future. This rivers of London audiobook much better choice for me. Its funny (the deadpan ghost interview to start off with? Hilarious) and audiobook narrator is AMAZING. I LOVE him.

Where do people get the patience. I feel like I did reading sword of kaigen. Like, I get it, Lazlo is plucky but downtrodden. Thyon is an asshole with daddy issues. Literally just put that in the prologue and let's get on with it. I will believe you. I for one think authors SHOULD just tell and not show some things and then we could get a move on 😤

Now I have to listen to this man's sob story 😮‍💨 a witch did bad things to him and then she was killed, yay,but now he wants them all dead? This makes zero sense. I'm team Alex, the reasonable one who actually got rid of the bad witch and still went on to be a good friend to other witches. Or team be single and get therapy. Why does the author think I would care about this dumbass man 😭

...did I get fooled into a fantasy version (witchhunter) of a cop romance? Yes, fuck the police but not literally, ma'am. This man just did a sad face bc sometimes his coworkers do extra violence at the arrest and he doesnt like that 😔??? Arresting and executing women would not suddenly be good and fine if they all followed procedures.

This book is so fun, and funny, and cool. LOVE Gideon and harrow already. I! Love! Mean! Women! Doing! Crimes! Its unique in a lot of ways from anything I've read so far, but has the familiarity of a good fun space romp. Love the concept as well - i am really hooked on finding out where it goes, the competition. LOVE enemies having to work together. The cover is so good too!

The only worthwhile version of the stairs plot point would be if, when Nesta finally makes it all the way down, she stretches and does the Midwest thigh slap and goes "welp, time to whoop some ass" and then goes into town and beats everyone up from the nightcourt. I feel like that's not going to happen so this book is inferior to my vision.

The entire night Court could die and I wouldn't shed a SINGLE tear. Rhysand is PURE trash - not telling his wife about a potentially fatal pregnancy complication is crime number one. Crime number 2 is that the complication is so eyerollingly bad. Jail for SJM, jail for 1000 years.

The fun in this book is imagining that its a different book. I don't know how to explain that.

If this were a book about Nesta figuring her shit out without any of the rest of the inner court? It'd be a 10/10. She should have given them all the middle finger and gone to another court.

I enjoyed hate-reading the earlier books but they were eyeroll level bad not "piss me off" bad. Based on spoiler reviews this mayyyyy be the latter and take a quick trip to the dnf pile. Its a pity bc nesta is one of the few characters I actually REALLY like. I haven't even started and im already like "justice for nesta"....

I wasn't even going to put this on goodreads ☠️ but now i have two smart books in my currently reading and it just felt really disingenuous. 💁‍♀️ Anyways I don't recommend this side series to anyone and I am Elise's biggest hater. If she doesnt have any haters im dead. I should dnf but sunk cost fallacy. Its bad like a 90s series where writers ran out of ideas so they do side quest episodes.

I FINALLY found this in a thrift store. It was an assigned text in college. It is 400 pounds so at the time I ripped out the chapters that were homework and took those to class (perhaps appalling other students? Idk.), so of course I pitched the whole thing afterwards. But ive thought of it often in the years since. I want to read small bits of smart stuff and an anthology is ideal.
