I wasn't even going to put this on goodreads ☠️ but now i have two smart books in my currently reading and it just felt really disingenuous. 💁‍♀️ Anyways I don't recommend this side series to anyone and I am Elise's biggest hater. If she doesnt have any haters im dead. I should dnf but sunk cost fallacy. Its bad like a 90s series where writers ran out of ideas so they do side quest episodes.

I FINALLY found this in a thrift store. It was an assigned text in college. It is 400 pounds so at the time I ripped out the chapters that were homework and took those to class (perhaps appalling other students? Idk.), so of course I pitched the whole thing afterwards. But ive thought of it often in the years since. I want to read small bits of smart stuff and an anthology is ideal.

Also, the scene where Misaki stands there while her son gets whaled on parallels the scene where her father in law is berating her while her loser ass husband stands by and does nothing. I have THOUGHTS about that.

I do feel like this is going to go somewhere really good. The problem is that for 7 hours i have been listening to a woman (who is perfectly capable of killing people) put up with an asshole loser man and I must ask myself whether it will be worth the secondhand psychic damage 🤣 if this book can make me understand this, it will be the greatest accomplishment of fiction ever, so I will let them cook for now.

"show not tell." The problem is that I, the reader, have zero interest in being SHOWN a crappy marriage to a crappy man. You could just TELL me in a single sentence that its a crappy marriage with a crappy man and we could move on to the fun part, like leaving him or him dying, or revenge upon his whole family or something. This is why a "good" book is often more frustrating than some "bad" ones to me.

Insert Ben Affleck smoking meme, thats how I feel. its easy to read so ill finish but I am not invested in the romance at all. I feel like (straight) romance is the genre where im most likely to run into duds. Even sticking to stuff with good reviews theres just no way to really know for sure whether I will care about the relationship, plus the odds are bad anyways since im a professional hater lol

I thought this was going to be a slam dunk but I am honestly kind of appalled so far??? I'm going to keep reading but I expect this to be a 2 star. Truly bad. Why does Marco have a girlfriend, but no friends. Why does he send his gf to spy on a woman he's interested in. I know I won't be satisfied bc Marco isn't going to die and it's what he deserves. This already has an ideal cozy fantasy fairy tale feeling. Its delightful. Someone does have to beat Lennox's ass by the end though.

I read these books as if going to brunch with a friend who's about to tell me a bunch of gossip about ppl I hate but love to talk shit about. Feyre and rhysand are THE WORST. I only like nesta and azriel so far (though he is a dumbass) and Lucien lives on real thin ice.

The cover of this slaps and the concept was so cool, it's one of the rare times that I purchase a book on pure impulse. We shall see.
