Already 18000000% better than the last book I read so is sitting at 3* from the get go. Great descriptive writing

Honestly the writing style is unbelievably poor. There's no build up to anything happening or reasons for things to be explained "oh you fell over here is a big shit explanation of your dad leaving" "oh, dad is back, here's a really shit non-explanation of anything" "oh There's an academy, and we're travelling in shadow with no explanation or description or build up"

No description of surroundings. Refuse to dnf.

Struggling with it a bit. I'm really enjoying the "past" chapters, they're keeping me really engaged and really moving the story along. Zevanders 'present' chapters are also interesting and I'm wondering what's going on with him.

On the other hand, Maeveths chapters have been boring since about chapter 5. There is a lot of repetitive talking, all the same things being said between them and not alot of movement.
