“… in my mind I would say that they’re drinking to fulfill something else in themselves as opposed to a social connection… it’s the idea that there’s something that they’re using drinking to fulfill innately in themselves.”

“ I would define a social drinker as someone who generally drinks in the company of others, but not on their own, so they drink because it’s a way to connect with other people. if someone says they’re a social drinker, I would sort of put an exclusion there that they can’t. I wouldn’t apply that term to someone who drinks, like, on their own, or when they’re by themselves, or at home as much.”

Lord Townes nods. “How do bankers make their money?”
Joyce has often wondered. Ron once told her, but he becomes quite hard to follow the angrier he gets.

“But then the computers all started talking to each other, and, before you knew it, your phone started talking to your computer, and your fridge started talking to your phone, and you willingly paid for a device that recorded everything you said and sent it to a server farm in the middle of the Nevada desert, just because it was easier than switching the radio on by yourself.”

Dead Seven

I age like a tree, each new ring an orbiting armor
round an empty marrow: the things I did not learn
closed off at the center of my being, unreachable.
Of interest only to those who would chop me down to see
what I might deliver coldly from another age:
“Oh … so, you see here, this was the problem, right here.
The worm at the root, the uneven ring.”

The two men stand together.
“Thank you, Bob,” says Ibrahim.
“Not at all,” says Bob. “I look forward to the rest of your story.”
“You’ve already heard it all,” says Ibrahim.
“Well, yes,” says Bob. “Except, what happens next?”

“Days of death are days when we weigh our relationship with love in our bare hands. Days when we remember what has gone, and fear what is to come. The joy love brings, and the price we pay.”

“There is a murder still to be solved, but it won’t be solved today. The timelines and the photographs and the theories and the plans will have to wait. Perhaps it will never be solved? Perhaps death has defeated them all with this latest trick? Who now has the heart for the battle?”
