This book took a sharp turn. I was hooked from the beginning, but the quick pace of the second half is more exciting. I can't look away. Kuang has a clear narrative voice that creates an immersive experience while reading. However, this is balanced with strong social and political critique. The characters who are shocked and confused are relatable, but so are the characters with radical ideals. Intrigued.

I have high expectations for this book, but I'm loving it so far. Robin's path and mine have some obvious differences. However, the similarities hold a lot of meaning for me.

So far, it's been a slow read but very worth it! The characters are very developped, and while they are all very different I have found them all likeable. I've learned so much. Even with the pace of the story, it's engaging and I'm looking forward to finishing it!
