Really interesting so far. The Rusted Robots narrative gives a nice reprieve from Zelu's family being absolutely insufferable. I'm sure there's a point being made here, but it's a bit hard to see through how awful everyone is.

Excellent so far! I think I just have a thing for Le Guin's type of writing.

Pretty good so far! I'm enjoying the magic system and am interested to see how various plot items get resolved. I will say though, some of the characters are a bit flat, and the degree to which the dialogue "tells", rather than "shows" is a bit draining. E.g., Lettie seems more like a stereotype rather than a fully fleshed out character, especially after the trip to Canton.

Initial impression is that I have no idea how this is going to be horror!

This has been much easier to get through than Red Mars - it's a bit more comfy and easier to just sit back and enjoy. And I am sure enjoying it a lot.

Loving this so far. It feels like we're getting longer and deeper focus on single characters. Red Mars jumped around a bit more.
This also feels like a natural continuation of the story, rather than a contrived sequel.
Nirgal and Art are very interesting. Feeling bad for Anne.

I'm what, a dozen percent further than my last update? And so much has happened.

Frank needs therapy.

Red Mars details a tragic event in its opening scene, and then switches to describing the months and years leading up to that event. 18 audiobook hours into this story and I'm still gutted by the event I knew was coming from the very start. It seems like the remaining 6 hours will stick with the aftermath, but we shall see!

Still loving it. This is going to be a 4 or 5 star book unless something drastic changes.
Pushing more into the speculative realm, but still with a good deal of hard science.
Lots of well written social intrigue and a variety of easily distinguishable characters.

Friendship with Maya ended. Nadia and Anne are my new best friends.

Anyway, this book is still great. Wonderfully developed characters and a fascinating setting. Can't get enough.

I can already tell this is going to be a good book. I first heard of it on the "Ologies" podcast where a planetary scientist studying Mars (an Areology) praised its accurate descriptions of Martian landscapes and called it one of the best pieces of Mars sci fi. She also said that although the author is not a scientist, he has done a diligent job at including more realistic science than normally seen in this genre.

Pretty interesting so far! I went in blind (knew nothing other than it related to cannibalism) and it's not what I expected. I see why some people take it to be a vegan narrative, and I agree that's true to an extent, but I think there's a lot more going on than just that.

The introduction and first three stories are so good! I'm really enjoying the ambiguities and how stomach churning these are. The heavy subject matter is also quite interesting.

My initial impression is that House of Leaves is surprisingly light and fun to read! I was expecting it to be fairly convoluted, but I guess I need to wait a little longer for that. Just hit the first multi-page footnote...
