The language is witty and full of humorous quips; however this is a very hard story to follow if you aren't initially versed in the tones, titles, and climate of 1500's Europe! The story is constantly shifting back and forward in time making it hard to track the relevance of some actions.

The book should be called “The Woman”. Where are the connected stories of lack of recognition and frustration with the women’s role during this time period? Why are we getting just the story of one toxic - in need of significant help - girl who flip flops back and forth seemingly to the author’s whims of what they want to write instead of aligning with the initial intent of the book?
