Finally, I made it past the foreword, LMFAO! This is my third time reading this book, and as I always say, Toni Morrison never wastes a single word. She’s one of those authors whose works can be read multiple times and still leave a profound impact. Reading her has inspired me to become a better reader and writer!

This book had a promising start, but I’m quite disappointed with its current trajectory. I genuinely wanted to enjoy this one, but I can already sense that it won’t be a 4 or 5 star read for me. The characters have lost their appeal, and the romance feels forced. I’m being serious when I say that the email exchange at the beginning is the only thing saving this book. Also where’s the “neighbor favor”????

Just got a few french books! I haven’t read those in a while, can’t wait.

Oh, Part 1 was good to me! I really enjoy seeing email/letter exchanges in books. I’m looking forward to reading the rest.

Reading the foreword once more reminded me of the reasons behind my deep admiration for Toni Morrison. Her mind is truly remarkable. I respect authors who are committed to not guiding us through their words—Morrison embodies this concept perfectly.

My most anticipated re-read of the year! I absolutely wanted to read Sula during Black History Month :)) one of my favorite books of all time.

My girl Paige is kind of infuriating, especially because she reminds me of myself so much lol. This book is so well written!! Nothing prepared me for the turn of events, I’m actually shocked.

I love family drama. This story is delicious!

La partie d’Hindou m’a brisé le coeur. Je pense j’ai du mal à finir ce livre parce-que le récit est similaire à tellement d’histoires que j’ai vu/entendu en grandissant… Hopefully I’ll be able to finish this soon!!

I really hate that Ramla’s story is something that I’ve seen happen so many times that I’ve almost become desensitized to it. The worst part is the helplessness a lot of us feel as women in those situations.

I want to throw up… This is one of the hardest chapters I’ve read this year, yes THIS YEAR. The Nanjing Massacre was awful and it’s difficult to read something that was inspired by such horrifying events.
