Hit the last third to quarter of the book and it’s spectacular. Before this I have been mildly interested, finishing the story out of trust that this would happen (and needing - like the loregoblin I am - the rest of the cosmological clues herein contained).

Can’t wait to finish!

Sanderson’s repetition of information is getting me in this one.

I also feel like it’s flat where Mistborn shone and Stormlight blinds.

I have yet to be terribly surprised and don’t feel like the conflicts with which the main characters are struggling are terribly interesting.

Absolutely finishing it because I know the end will be incredible and may redeem itself in the interim besides.

I don’t think I can finish it and that makes me really sad. The lore is so enticing and the art is wonderful. But the characters are boring and the story is (1) slow and (2) pretentious (as of a mythology/fairy tale).

I’m moving on.

Middle of chapter 12.

Off to a good start. And much of the cosmological consequences and connections are clicking into place.

Incredible storytelling. Beginning to feel Sanderson is one of the greatest authors of our time. Between Mistborn and Stormlight.

This book is so entertaining. I’m thrilled at the lore development and can hardly wait to read between sessions.

Picking up splendidly. A bit more court-play than I expected but I love a good intrigue story so I’m along for the ride.

Finally had a look at the magic system and I’m excited to see what is done with it. Hope to see some more plot movement soon.

Interesting enough. Looking forward to some developments and on-page action.

Presently 41min left in Chapter 5 on Spotify.

Already fantastic. And the audiobook is a whopping 58 hours!

Left off at Chapter 19. Audiobook.

Honestly I’m very disappointed in this book and am unsure if I will be finishing it. It reads like a parade of horrors which, while may be intentional and even accurate to the source/inspirational setting, is not entertaining. Without relenting, this has created in me a sense of the loss of stakes.

Also can’t stand Rin. She lacks a single interesting personality trait.

Delectable. Continues to shine.

Off to the races with this one. Rich mid-fantasy lore to harness my curiosity. Compelling characters and a strong authorial voice.

Just discovered it’s the first in a series and I am excited!

Surprisingly action-packed, pleasantly (and unpleasantly) visceral, a book I can barely put down.

The series continues full steam ahead. Definitely carries itself like a middle-novel. I lose the audiobook to the library gods here shortly.

I am staggered at how much this book has captured me. I’m thrilled there are so many in this series.

It’s inspiring me to write again!

So far this book is great! An excellent follow up to the brickwork laid by its predecessor.

I am firmly girdled by this series. I will be finishing it.

Very interesting read so far. It is a paper copy and I have a lot more audio time in my life right now so I will get to it eventually. It just isn’t dragging back into its shadow at present.

Certainly sprawling and at times descriptions are repeated 4 or 5 times but the book is so long I’m almost grateful for the reminders of the flora of the world. I’m really enjoying myself with this one but I definitely would not run to recommend it to someone unless they were ready to wade into the muck of classic epic fantasy.

Oh and the MC repeatedly ruins his own life (or ignores solutions) which bugs me.

Here we go. A 45hr audiobook but an explosive opening few chapters!

This book is incredible. Rin is such a compelling character and the writing, unsurprisingly, is fantastic.

So excited to start this book! It finally came off of hold!

This book is radiant. Such a privilege to have stories told this well in my lifetime.

Excellent horror research material so far. The blatant racism is wild though.

So poorly written. The cover styling and marketing promise so much.
