Today in my reading, my literary element was a simile. "When you dwell on something for too long, it can grow way out of proportion in your mind and become like the monsters children fear when theyŕe alone in their dark room at night.¨ This simile is effective because we have all experienced the fear of the dark or know someone that has. This quote also explains and does the comparison well.

My appeal that I found was ethos. The author talks about how her grandmother limits herself to fun experiences because of her one leg. "Just like her, I'd been limiting myself in my own mind, in my own way." This is a strong ethos appeal because the author uses two people to illustrate that people will torture themselves about something they hate. This leads to the authors claim that self acceptance is crucial.

After reading today, I wonder how the author is able to coach herself to not feel consious about what she looks like. I wonder this because our society often compares each other to one another by looks or materalistic things. The author teaching herself not to do that with her appearance less appealing than others (due to her disease) makes me very curious about how the author doesn't let others get to her.

The best part of my reading was learning about the author adopting a puppy. I am a huge dog-lover, so this made me even more interested in this part of the book! The reason why the author go this dog was to make her feel less lonley since she lived in this apartment all by herself.

What surprised me the most while reading today was the authors' honesty. In her bibography, she tells deep stories about who she is and what has occured in her life. I personally wouldn't be able to do what she does because I don't like everyone knowing deep and sorrowful stories in my life, but the author explains that she does this to open up a new perspective for people.

An unusual word from my book today was bureau. Bureau means agency. I chose this word because I have never really seen it before in previous books I have read.

I observed that my author has a lot of positivity even though she has gone through horrific events in her life. I think the next chapter will be about her addressing her syndrome and how she accepted it.
