It’s not looking good for y’all (by y’all I mean this book’s rating when I’ve finished it)

Obviously, I love Mother Mafi and wouldn’t dream of disrespecting her, and I don’t think this is her fault, more an ingrained societal expectation of fantasy FMCs after the main plot, but it feels really misogynistic, and I hate it. (6/6)

Juliette is in this book and Watch Me. Fingers crossed once the baby comes she gets more page time - I can totally see Warner being a stay at home dad, but I don’t want his career to be prioritised over hers. Don’t get me wrong, I love Aaron as much as the next person (in fact, the cardboard cutout of him in my room is staring at me as I write this), but I HATE how the narrative is treating Juliette here (5)

Than Juliette, because, y’know, it’s AARON FREAKING WARNER ANDERSON CHIEF COMMANDER AND REGENT ON SECTOR 45, but just because he’s the one who’s everyone’s book boyfriend, doesn’t mean that the reader’s don’t want to see Juliette being a badass head of state. Plus, there’s no reason they both can’t be active in the plot. I just really dislike how inconsequential and submissive to Warner (3)

But it doesn’t make sense/ I hate it in terms of Juliette’s character arc. I don’t like that she’s been this total badass FMC in her series, and now has effectively done the fantasy FMC epilogue trope where she becomes a docile tradwife and loses her powers (although she hasn’t, but undoubtedly never uses them). Obviously I get that they’ve audience would rather have Warner involved in the plot (2)

I’m LOVING the Warnette crumbs and baby, but I’m really disliking the Juliette bed rest stuff. I get that they’ve been having fertility issues and this baby’s a miracle and thus everyone’s being really careful, like, it makes sense for the plot (maybe not to this extent, I’ve never been pregnant but I feel like normally you don’t have to nap 24/7 - she’s not having quadruplet) (1)

The plot’s hooking me but also the writing. I’m loving the descriptions.

Fuck GCSEs I’ve literally spent all day reading instead of working, but who would do differently when this book has absolutely perfect vibes! Unfortunately I didn’t have the mental strength to save it as a summer read

Bro, as cute as you two are together, and as much as I love your character, Xavier, you can’t fall in love literally only half way through the book, it goes against romance book rules ☹️☹️ This means something bad’s going to happen…

I don’t know why the last book in series’ of four always tend to grind my gears and be least favourite for me, I think it’s mostly when the author pulls out slightly inconsequential characters to make a book to finish the series. I feel like this with Elle Kennedy’s “The Play” too.

I like the first spicy scene to have a “consent check” - I do actually find that really hot - but in chapter 20 or whatever it was, Nadia said she “wasn’t herself”or something along those lines, and seemed to show that to Griffin, and it irks me that he didn’t stop or check in with her.
Plus I adore the brothers best friend thing, but with the age gap is makes it feel even more creepy. (Part 3/3)

Plus, the age gap feels creepy. I know it’s the same as Heartless, but Willa was older, and I felt like she and Cade saw each other as equals. There’s definitely a power imbalance here, which I hate. I love an alpha MMC as much as the next person, but not one who’s controlling and domineering, I like the FMC to be powerful too, which I thought Nadia would be, but no. (Part 2/3)

I loved Nadia in A False Start, but now that she’s maturer she’s not doing it for me so much. I liked her as a surly teenage girl.
Griffin just isn’t my cup of tea either, he’s annoying, grumpy, and his trauma is hardly an issue compared to all the other ones in this series, he’s over dramatic and just needs to get over himself, go to therapy and speech therapy, and work through it. (Part 1/2)

Stella’s being kinda annoying and dramatic, like you literally asked Christian to find your stalker, then when he actually makes an effort to look into your past and try to find possible suspects, suddenly he’s the stalker and is crazy? My brother in Christ, chill, you literally have a social media presence, and this info is more or less readily available online…? It’s really not that deep 🫶
