South Africa has had an immeasurable influence on the African continent, colonialism was capitalism and tried to rewrite African history, Black consciousness is Black renaissance, memory and language are linked, Krune Mqhayi, African literature needs African languages, translation and the adoption by the people of African languages

Pan-Africanism lead to Afro-modernity. Afro-Modernity is flawed due to its reliance on Euro-ideologies such as the arbitrary geography, the African Renaissance requires the the adoption of African languages by not just writers but also African governments

The problem of language is that African-writers write in the Euro-languages while the masses speak their African tongue. The African middle class/elites are anti-historical language on the continent while the diaspora want to go back to the language. Africans are seemingly killing their own language to forget the horrors of colonialism.

European culture essentially replaced African culture, historic destruction of African culture/continent’s identity as a whole, name replacing, linguicide, slavery on the continent and diaspora

I like the ending but not the lead up to it. I don’t think I can blame Bradbury for that though as chapters 1 and 2 were so great it would be hard to follow them up. Chapter 3 was still good with many good allegories/insights.

Fiction was never my favorite but oh my god. This book is something else. The way Captain Beatty is set up as a highly education and unstoppable foe for Montag gives me the same feeling of dread Bugonia gave me. Also that last line is cold.

So far I enjoy this book, I like how Clarisse is portrayed and the questions she asks Guy. I like how the book makes you think about your life through the questions Clarisse asks Guy.

Tyranny piggybacks off fearful circumstances to gain support. These circumstances can be manufactured however, don’t be driven by fear.

Remember kids, if someone in power doesn’t like you. You’re a terrorist!

Be multicultural. Learn from and take non-American ideas. Collaboration is a great skill, keep an active passport.

Be apart of something.

Value privacy. Don’t do everything digitally, anything digital no matter how “private” you think it is public to someone. Make a life off of the internet.

Solidarity with people you wouldn’t see yourself siding with, if you solidify and see the similarities you can team up against the real issues.

Solidarity is the only way to end tyranny.

It’s everyone’s responsibility for the spreading of fake news. Fact check before you share.

Read.

Stand out, don’t conform to the pack and especially don’t swallow your morals for them. Do good even when it’s hard.

Powerful people divide the common person, that is how hate is spread and how the rich get richer.

Hitler used lawyers. Authoritarians need people willing to aid, those aiding are not innocent of just following orders. Those aiding are guilty of the same crimes.
