I think this book is interesting and is a good fit for me. I am going to continue to read it.

The Measure
I think that our community comes together really well when we have someone pass away. Recently, I have seen different parts of the community come together for support and to raise money for the families who have lost someone.

Yes they are. I think they should stand for their rights because it is unfair for them to be treated so poorly compared to the long strings just because of the length of their string

No, I would not. Although he did it for a good cause in his mind and he will probably get a lot of notice from it, I still would not do it for someone that I do not care about.

I think what was most shocking amongst the people in the group was that Hank's string was shorter than everyone else in the support group.

I think the politician in the book shows a lot of greed and motivation for power, which makes him very unlikable. I do not agree with him "outing" his opponents' string because it was not his business because it is a negative way to dig things out about his opponent. Although I think everyone deserved to know because since his string was short the election would have had to happen again.

No, I believe that there are opportunities that can be seen as miracles, but miracles do not necessarily happen. Opportunities are normally worked for, manifested, or prayed about, but they do not just happen.

I think the events going on are only impacting them because they are letting their emotions and the lengths of their strings affect what they are doing in their life, and how they are going about treating everyone based on the different string lengths. I think if they continue to be diverse based on their strings, things will only get worse, and more bad things will keep happening.

I think I would test it to a certain point. If I knew I had a longer string I would take more risks and do things that seem scary, but also seem fun to me too. I would not do something stupid like jump off a bridge or try to "escape" death. I would just take more risks and do things that I would not normally do.

It shows us many perspectives because it is good to get an understanding of what is happening in the world for other people as well, and how different characters are reacting to their strings. I like it this way because it shows that everyone is going through different things.

I chose Ben. They describe him as a business man. We do not really get an insight of his emotions because he does not display them a lot and talks very calmly. The only thing we know is that he has been very anxious given his circumstances. He is in denial at the beginning but then he really accepted his string and started going to a group. He can be seen as laid back and has a "stern" like presence

It does start in media res because it starts when the boxes arrive at their houses and just starts in the middle of their lives and doesn't really give us what their lives looked like before the boxes.

Nina and Ben seem to be opposite right now after reading chapter 1. Nina seems to believe everything and is very anxious and scared about everything that is going on. While Ben seems to not care as much as he states "Are people not going to work today?" He also brings up that they are now in Gods perspective. Its only when he sees other people panic then he kind of starts to worry.

If I were to receive a box like in the book, I would want to know how much longer I had to live. I think if I knew, I would book a trip I always wanted to go on or impulsively buy something that I have had my eye on for a while. Without knowing, you are never certain if you should make these decisions.

No More Excuses: Dismantling Rape Culture
Today I read more into the legal system and found out that over half of cases do not even go to court simply because cops do not believe them or do not want to deal with it.

Today I read about more interesting stories that have happened to people in real life and it is so crazy to think that this happens more common then anyone thinks and about how our system has failed so many people.

In the pages I read, it was very interesting to see all of the real life examples and tv examples in this book. These examples help highlight all of the things that are wrong with our culture in todays society and helps to better understand that bad things do happen more often then anyone thinks.

I believe Susannah Cahalan wants readers to see how things can change so fast and how people are treated differently based on their psychosis or physical disability. I believe she just wanted to share her experience with the world.
