fever dream

hedda is actually so hilarious -- what a diva

"The text is a tissue of quotations drawn from the innumerable centers of culture."

this ending was so fucking cringe

I HAVE BEEN READING THIS BOOK FOREVER AND YOU'RE TELLING ME I'M ONLY 5% DONE????????????

Everything I know about Napoleon I learn against my will.

I didn't realize I would be reading like 50% French in the English translation but I'm not complaining.

Ok I see why English Anglophones called this book a health hazard. I refuse to finish this book my heart feels like it’s being torn out

Finally, somebody more dramatic than me. Werther has to get a grip, omg.

This book is probably going to make my yearning 100x worse; however, the fact that Goethe wrote this in four weeks is truly mind-boggling and I must know what Lotte did to fuck him up so badly.

Unless the ending disappoints, this will be the most mind-blowing book I've ever read in my life

This book is gonna turn me into a fuck-boy with commitment issues

“I’d lived more during the past two weeks than in all the years of my life put together... It was not just my tired limbs that were coming to life. It was also my soul... A soul only came forward when it found its twin…All I wanted was to pour out my heart to her, the good with the bad, the weaknesses with the strengths... I had so much to say to her…enough to fill a lifetime.”

"Even a fool could have a soul whose torments were a constant source of amazement. Why are we so slow to see this, and why do we assume that it is the easiest thing in the world to know and judge another? Why, when we are so reluctant even to describe a wedge of cheese we are seeing for the first time, do we draw our final conclusions from our first encounters with people, and happily dismiss them?"

"Our district self-government and all the rest of it—it’s just like the birch branches we stick in the ground on Trinity Day, for instance, to look like a copse which has grown up of itself in Europe, and I can’t gush over these birch branches and believe in them."
