When I read books that don't really grab me but I still have hope that it will happen, I usually read a collection of short stories at the same time.

This allows me to escape from the boring chapters, read something else (hopefully more interesting - like Dozois SF 29) & then continue with the novel I paused. If it gets less annoying then, I carry on. I don't like giving up on a book so easily...

Although I didn't like the first part, I continued with the second (I bought the first chronicle second-hand for a reasonable price). What can I say? So far it reads much better - because Covenant no longer seems to be the main protagonist of the story. 😅

I finished reading “Gypsy” by Carter Scholz (which was the reason I bought the 2015 story collection) – and the story really is a true gem.
