How did Suzanne Collins write a book about a man we hate so incredibly? I have no idea.

Almost at the end…….. it’s 1am on the 26th. Does it still count as Christmas night or is it Boxing Day morning now…?

Sometimes this book reads quite young - perhaps because of the writing style - but then there are moments like that last chapter where the descriptions are so visually gory! Don’t get me wrong, I love that. Makes it so much more immersive and interesting. I liked it about The Steel Remains by Richard Morgan but honestly that was a little less gory in its descriptions. I think. It was far, far more grimdark though.

I’m realising… is this book actually “tell tell tell” or am I just not used to reading a book that ISN’T written in first person???

I dunno, the writing for the very start of this doesn’t feel too great. A little too tell-y. Young. It seems to pick up when we get to the mail boy though?? I’ll keep reading. It probably is just a blip at the start before we get into the juice… I’m on 10 pages in after all!!!

Kit’s POV reads like poetry and descriptive food porn, which does make me skim read a lot more than Theo, but I do enjoy the difference in perspectives between the two

Almost fourth wall breaking on this page. Wdym Kit is reading a book where the plot is oddly similar to the direction of this book with a similar “resonant homosexual flavour”? How coincidental is that 😛

I don’t read romances at all. My last one was just constant hook ups which ruined the flow of any narrative. Although this has had plot leading up to this “hookup competition” so I’m content and surprisingly liking the story so far.

But I have realised one thing. I’m embarrassed to enjoy reading romance around others. I think it’s probably a toxic masculinity thing. Something to unpack as we go.
